Quartz Countertops vs. Granite Countertops

When most people are wanting countertops they are trying to choose between granite and quartz, (quartz is also referred to as “engineered stone”).

Granite is millions of years old and is formed in the earth under great heat and pressure. Granite comes from all parts of the globe and the differences in appearance can be attributed to the different mineral compositions in the stone. Granite is beautiful and every single slab is unique. Granite, because it is a natural stone is also porous, not to worry as there are very effective sealers that are great at preventing staining and keeping bacteria out of the pores.

Quartz or “Engineered Stone” is a man made product, it’s composed of 93% crushed quartz and 7% color and binder. Quartz is extremely tough, hard and strong. It’s also non-porous, available in a wide range of colors and patterns and will never stain or harbor bacteria. Quartz is available in colors and patterns that resemble marble and granite.
